Our Mission
We are a family called of God in Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, to worship
and faithfully carry out His ministry to God's people and to the world so loved by Him.
Faith In Action
A compassion ministry established to assist members of the Reformed Church of Shawangunk and
their families, in addition to individuals in the surrounding community with their emergency needs.
Anyone experiencing personal difficulties can contact Sandy DuBois our Program Coordinator.  In
striving to meet needs in an equitable fashion the Faith in Action staff work under the leadership of
the Consistory of the Reformed Church of Shawangunk. Its activities are funded by the Deacon's
Fund or donations ear-marked for the ministry by organizations and or individuals. Therefore services
are limited and when rendered are always temporary.  Services include referral services, meals,
transportation, handyman assistance, visits, errands and spiritual counseling.  Those needs outside of
the services provided by Faith in Action may be better met through our referral network.  In either
case the Faith in Action team will completely assess and evaluate your situation to insure they are
providing the maximum benefit.

Adopted Family Program
Billy Graham once challenged a group of Christian leaders stating that if every church in the United States would
according to its size adopt a family who is struggling to make ends meet, and help them until they can get back
on their feet, there would be no need for welfare programs.

The leaders of the Reformed Church of Shawangunk have taken this challenge to heart and embarked on a pilot
program to adopt a struggling family in need of targeted assistance and provide temporary help with the goal of
helping the family get back on their feet.

Our pilot family faced a number of challenges from transportation to surgery, including a number of sundry items
that needed to be brought under control.  We limited our help to one family at a time, in order to learn what the
program might entail.

Our strategy is to provide concentrated effort in helping the family not only with finances but also guidance
through counseling and basic life management skills training, thus providing a long term benefit, and building block,
rather than the program just being another financial hand out.  The projected program length for all candidates is
12 to 18 months.

This is a temporary subsidy and empowerment program.  It is not designed nor structured to provide assistance
long-term or an indefinite amount of time.  The program is interactive where goals are set according to each
situation and continued assistance is incumbent upon goals met.

But the needs of any family for a period of year or so are many, especially where stable income is not present.
The ability of the Reformed Church of Shawangunk to move in this direction has been made possible through the
generous gifts of our members and friends who have support the ministry in its infant stages.  We are ready to
expand our help and invite the general public to help more families in need of this specialized assistance.
